    Gansu Association for the Promotion of Tibetan Culture is a non-profit organization in Gansu Province established by numerous enthusiastic volunteers from different backgrounds.  The members of Tibetan origin constitute the main body of the Association.

    The mission of Gansu Association for the Promotion of Tibetan Culture is to advance researches on Tibetan history, culture and economy as well as on the theoretical and practical problems of Tibetan people in this dynamic era of China’s economic reform and development of socialist market economy.  It is intended to promote economic and social development in Tibetan areas, especially in Gansu Province.  To assist the socialist modernization process of Gansu Province, the Association bases itself on the principle of equality, solidarity and common prosperity of all ethnic groups under the guidance of the policies of Chinese State and the Communist Party.  Its operation fully accords with the limits of constitution and laws of the People’s Republic of China.

    Gansu Association for the Promotion of Tibetan Culture is dedicated to:
    1. conducting researches on both traditional cultures and modern social issues in the Tibetan regions by understanding the characteristics of Tibetan people in Gansu within the framework of the current modernization. We especially emphasize studies on contemporary Tibetan culture;
    2. building active working relations with friendly philanthropic organizations at home and abroad for the purpose of recommending development projects on poverty-alleviation, education, health, environmental protection, women and children, cultural revival, animal husbandry in the Tibetan areas of Gansu Province;
    3. reviving and preserving the cultural heritages of Tibetan Buddhism;
    4. discovering, compiling and publishing books, audio and visual products concerning Tibetan culture and Buddhism; providing members with consultations on copyright and publication;
    5. conducting academic research and exchange programs on economics, history, culture, religion, arts, science and technology, ethnic groups and their folklores in Tibetan areas;
    6. planning and organizing cooperative researches and cultural exchange events for both domestic and foreign academic institutions, including economic, culture and artistic exchange, and social activities;
    7. organizing various training and lectures to disseminate guidelines, policies, laws and regulation of CCP and the Chinese State; communicating and expanding economic, scientific and cultural achievements and information;
    8. developing the Association’s own entrepreneurship and delegating the proceeds  to the sustained operation of the Association;
    9. researching and developing Tibetan medicine;
    10. creating a journal of the Association, improving Tibetan Culture Net, establishing a database for Tibetan culture and providing consultation for Tibetan cultural studies;
    11. reporting suggestions and requests of members to the relevant authorities, and protecting the legal rights and interests of members.

    Gansu Association for the Promotion of Tibetan Culture, under the administration of the Culture Bureau of Gansu Province and registered at Civil Affairs Bureau of Gansu Province, is a non-profit organization in Gansu Province established by volunteer members from all professions, in which Tibetan people constitute the main body. After more than two years’ preparation, the Association has been established with its initial structure. The mission statement, the constitution and goals of the Association have also been drafted.  Development projects has begun to be actively planned and implemented.

    The predecessor of the Association is Tibetan Culture Net (www.tibetcul.com), which was founded more than two years ago. Since then, the Net has contributed to integrating Tibetan cultural resources, facilitating communication and exchange between Tibetan nationality and Han nationality, and to planning publications on Tibetan cultures and public service and charitable projects towards Tibetan regions. At present, the website has become a cutting-edge Chinese website on Tibetan culture, which is popular among viewers who are interested in Tibetan culture. From now on, as a regular project of Gansu Association for the Promotion of Tibetan Culture, this website will continue to contribute to dissemination and exchange of Tibetan culture.

    Meanwhile, upholding the purpose and spirit of the Association for the Promotion of Tibetan People, founded by Mr. Huang Zhengqing—a modern democratic Tibetan progressive—and his colleagues, Gansu Association for the Promotion of Tibetan Culture aspires to make every effort to contribute to the welfare, development and construction of Tibetan people. The Association will actively conduct researches on traditional and modern cultures of Tibetan people, especially on contemporary culture in Tibetan areas; and meanwhile, actively get in touch with friendly charities at home and abroad so as to recommend development projects on poverty-alleviation, education, health, environmental protection, women and children, culture, animal husbandry in Tibetan areas within Gansu Province.

    The speech made by Dantzin, Deputy Party Secretary of Yunnan Province, at 2006 Chinese Culture Heritage Forum, becomes the guideline for future development of the Association. He said, “Through the complex appearances of culture heritage industry, we find that this industry is actually accumulated by specific programs, which are the building blocks for the development of culture industry and are the most convenient and effective starting points. We need to mobilize all forces to make integrated plans and scientific attestation, set up various programs so to advance the development of culture industry.”

    We sincerely hope that Gansu Association for the Promotion of Tibetan Culture will fulfill its intended mission to unite people from all walks of life and mobilize all social forces to work together to contribute to the development of Tibetan culture in Gansu Province.
